Choosing a LiPo battery for your FPV drone

The basics

An FPV LiPo battery is described by three parameters: cell count (S), capacity (mAh), and C-rating (max discharge current).

Cell count (S)

Typical freestyle/racing setups use 4S-6S. More cells means higher voltage and more power at the same current.

Capacity (mAh)

Higher capacity means longer flight time, but also more weight — a trade-off between flight time and performance. Use the battery calculator to estimate approximate flight time.

C-rating

Defines the maximum safe discharge current (current = capacity × C-rating). For a freestyle build, keep a safety margin above peak motor current draw.
